Scholarship & Career Opportunities
We are affiliated with many insurers in Central Illinois and offer opportunities to benefit local students, such as dialogue on Scholarships, Mentoring arrangements, and Careers in Insurance at the chapter level.
Scholarships – Our chapter partners with local universities, community colleges, and the CPCU Society to promote and offer scholarship opportunities to qualified students.
Mentoring – We promote interest and participation in the CPCU Society through mentorship activities and events, completed in a time-boxed mentorship agreement.
Careers in Insurance – Our chapter volunteers will provide presentations to local university and community college classes on careers in insurance, as well as attend career fairs to bring more students into the field.
“I recently had Mr. Dar Beachy speak in my Introduction to Risk Management and Insurance course in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. His high energy and enthusiasm received very positive feedback. Not only was he well received by the students he spent extra time communicating with students who are interested in pursuing future careers in insurance industry. I believe his lecture exposed my students to real-world industry practices.”

Scholarships – We partner with local universities, community colleges, and the CPCU Society to promote and offer opportunities to qualified students. Scholarships are available to students in their sophomore or higher year pursuing a major, minor or master's degree in the fields of business administration, actuarial science, risk management, or data science and statistics related to insurance. Interested candidates are asked to submit a resume highlighting relevant experiences, leadership, and career goals. Along with the resume we ask interested candidates to submit a 1–2-page summary highlighting why they should be selected along with a description of their involvement with the Central Illinois CPCU chapter.
Mentoring – We offer a time-boxed mentorship program to any undergraduate student focused on professionalism, soft skill development, going from college to a full-time position, what credentials to pursue, resume reviews, mock interviews, and more. The reward for students is gaining insight from a practitioner to help connect concepts from the classroom to the real world. The reward for mentors is giving back to their profession, while sharing and helping to enhance the skills of the next generation of talent.
Careers in Insurance – We offer speakers that will come visit your classroom with a presentation that the CPCU Society has created. This presentation is designed to offer the students a list of roles and responsibilities needed in the insurance environment either on the P&C side and/or the Life and Health side as well. The presentation is designed to be very interactive with an activity at the end to assist a volunteer to find what role that would utilize their skills and expertise.
